One thing I love doing here on Nostr is reviewing cool stuff made by real people.
This is fun for several reasons:
1. The products found on Nostr are verifiably made right where they say they are. Frequently, plebs even post photos of the process of making them.
2. There’s a sene of pride in the craftsmanship that goes into making and selling things here.
3. You can reach out directly to the person that made your purchase.
Last week, I happened upon Hard Cap SOLID Cologne and discovered a totally new (to me) product, hard cologne.
Like a lot of stuff on Nostr, it’s a familiar concept, but made more efficient, practical, durable, better quality, and priced in sats.
In this case, the concept that everyone loves is smelling awesome.
I had never heard of hard cologne before, but its on Plebeian Market with very detailed descriptions of the available scents, so I picked Sovereign Wealth because I figured I couldn’t go wrong with something that ended up smelling like coffee.
The theory behind this product is so simple and intuitive that I couldn’t believe I’d never seen it made before.
Basically: traditional colognes are basically fancy spray bottles. As soon as the liquid cologne lands on you, it begins evaporating or sliding off if you’re on a hot date or shredding hard on your guitar.
To compensate for this, liquid colognes are made so strong that your nose is blasted with dude smell right away and get numbed. Of course everyone will notice that You’re Wearing Cologne.
Hard Cap’s product works like this: slide open the metal tin, rub your fingers on the waxy block of cologne for a moment, then simply apply a bit to a pressure point, and you’re ready to rock.
Its beeswax base holds the scent in and you are set like a watch.
The scent isn’t overwhelming, but it’s definitely complex; you’ll get used to it because it just works. You’ll smell it right when you slide open the tin, but after you put it on, you go on with your day and you smell great.
Here was my field test. Hard Cap claims these colognes last for several hours, which is a big ask even for eau de parfums, which are so initially strong that you forget you smell like the Mens Fragrance section.
Not to mention nice ones are usually $100+ in fiat.
Back to my test.
I put a little bit behind each ear, went about my day, and waited four hours before asking someone how I smelled. Instead of the “oh what cologne are you wearing?” I got a sort of puzzled-but-smiling look and “wow I don’t know what that is but you smell GOOD. What IS that?”
That, in my opinion, is a much cooler reaction than just a nod to your taste in men’s fragrances.
This stuff is so simple, just a few ingredients, no 5-syllable chemical additives, handmade, and the price is right. It even comes in a metal tin half the size of a chewing gum package so you can toss it in your EDC bag and it’s wax, so it won’t spill anywhere.
I just won a tin of Scarcity in a contest by Hard Cap and it smells completely different from Sovereign Wealth, but it smells fantastic as well. I can’t wait to see this stuff in action.
Go spend a few sats and treat yourself to one of these. They’re worth it.
